When I look through my sketchbooks and prints, I discover a record of favorite
places, plant studies and the amazing changing colors of the seasons. The images usually originate from a walk in nature. I paint a sketch in watercolor and use the camera like a journal of ideas. In the studio, I surround myself with these ideas and begin working on a line drawing and then transfer the image onto a metal plate.
Intaglio Printmaking
I use three of four metal plates, a line plate, blue, red and yellow plates. Aquatints on the plates create the areas of tone and shade. Each plate is worked many times to create the effects. In the process of printing the inks mix together often creating delightful surprises.
The process is rewarding and exciting.
